Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Huffman Elementary School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, with Dooley Elementary School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Huffman Elementary School has a regular student population of 557 with a 13 students/teacher ratio while Dooley Elementary School has 302 students and a student-teacher ratio of 9.4 students/teacher ratio.
Huffman Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 77 in student achievement, 90 in school progress and 81 in closing performance gaps. A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Dooley Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Huffman Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at Huffman Elementary School. They make up for 36.09% of student population, followed by Hispanics (27.29%), Whites or Caucasians (19.57%), Asians (8.98%), Two or More Races (7.36%) and Native Americans (0.36%).
The student population at Dooley Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 34.44%, followed by Hispanics (32.78%), African Americans (14.90%), Asians (11.26%), Two or More Races (4.97%) and Native Americans (1.66%).
Based on household incomes, Huffman Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 56.73% compared to 44.70% at Dooley Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Huffman Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 17.41% of its student population compared to 20.53% at Dooley Elementary School.
Huffman Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 17.06%, gifted and talented students, 10.05%, while 12.21% are in the special education program. Dooley Elementary School bilingual students comprise 19.54%, gifted and talented students, 9.93%, and 18.21% are in the special education program.
43 teachers employed at Huffman Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 5.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging 8.1 years. The 32 teachers at Dooley Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 12.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 14 years.
