Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Houston Math Science And Technology Center and Soar Ctr are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Houston Math Science And Technology Center is Hispanics who make up nearly 91.35% of student population, followed by African Americans (6.75%), Whites or Caucasians (1.24%), Native Americans (0.26%), Two or More Races (0.22%) and Asians (0.11%).
The student population at Soar Ctr is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 45.07%, followed by Hispanics (38.03%), African Americans (12.68%), Asians (2.82%) and Two or More Races (1.41%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Houston Math Science And Technology Center’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 95.26% compared to 9.86% at Soar Ctr.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Houston Math Science And Technology Center has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 40.46% of its student population compared to 1.41% at Soar Ctr.
Houston Math Science And Technology Center’s bilingual students comprise 39.73%, gifted and talented students, 12.84%, while 12.22% are in the special education program. Soar Ctr bilingual students comprise 4.23%, gifted and talented students, 1.41%, and 77.46% are in the special education program.
