Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Hedgcoxe Elementary School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, with Aldridge Elementary School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Hedgcoxe Elementary School has a regular student population of 426 with a 11.8 students/teacher ratio while Aldridge Elementary School has 509 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.1 students/teacher ratio.
Hedgcoxe Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 90 in student achievement, 88 in school progress and 82 in closing performance gaps. It scored 88 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Aldridge Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 91 in student achievement, 91 in school progress, 89 in closing performance gaps and 90 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Hedgcoxe Elementary School and Aldridge Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Hedgcoxe Elementary School. They make up for 43.66% of student population, followed by Hispanics (19.48%), Asians (15.73%), African Americans (12.91%) and Two or More Races (8.22%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Aldridge Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 42.63%, followed by Asians (21.41%), Hispanics (17.68%), African Americans (11.20%), Two or More Races (6.88%) and Native Americans (0.20%).
Based on household incomes, Hedgcoxe Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 25.12% compared to 22.79% at Aldridge Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Hedgcoxe Elementary School has 76 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 17.84% of student population. Aldridge Elementary School has more ELLs at 79 or about 15.52% of student population.
Hedgcoxe Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 17.61%, gifted and talented students, 7.98%, while 13.15% are in the special education program. Aldridge Elementary School bilingual students comprise 14.73%, gifted and talented students, 6.48%, and 11.39% are in the special education program.

The 38 teachers at Aldridge Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 8.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.5 years.
