Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Harrington Elementary School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, with Christie Elementary School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
Harrington Elementary School has a regular student population of 349 with a 12.1 students/teacher ratio while Christie Elementary School has 567 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11.4 students/teacher ratio.
Harrington Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 91 in student achievement, 92 in school progress and 92 in closing performance gaps. It scored 92 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Christie Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 72 in student achievement, 77 in school progress, 74 in closing performance gaps and 76 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Harrington Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics and Science. Christie Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Harrington Elementary School. They make up for 42.69% of student population, followed by Asians (20.92%), Hispanics (19.77%), African Americans (12.03%) and Two or More Races (4.58%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Christie Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 46.38%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (26.63%), African Americans (15.17%), Two or More Races (5.82%), Asians (5.64%) and Native Americans (0.35%).
Based on household incomes, the Harrington Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 27.22% compared to 55.91% at Christie Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Harrington Elementary School has 41 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 11.75% of student population. Christie Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 202 or about 35.63% of student population.
Harrington Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 11.75%, gifted and talented students, 9.17%, while 14.90% are in the special education program. Christie Elementary School bilingual students comprise 35.27%, gifted and talented students, 7.41%, and 16.93% are in the special education program.

The 49 teachers at Christie Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 7.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.5 years.
