Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet, which is a part of RICHARDSON ISD, with Skyview Elementary School, which is a part of RICHARDSON ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet has a regular student population of 609 with a 10.6 students/teacher ratio while Skyview Elementary School has 696 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11.5 students/teacher ratio.
Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 77 in student achievement, 88 in school progress and 80 in closing performance gaps. It scored 86 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Skyview Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 60 in student achievement, 72 in school progress, 68 in closing performance gaps and 71 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet's one out of seven distinction is in Science. Skyview Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet. They make up for 48.44% of student population, followed by Hispanics (28.24%), Whites or Caucasians (15.11%), Asians (3.78%), Two or More Races (3.78%) and Native Americans (0.49%).
The student population at Skyview Elementary School is also predominantly by African Americans at 49.43%, followed by Hispanics (32.47%), Asians (10.34%), Whites or Caucasians (6.03%), Two or More Races (1.29%) and Native Americans (0.29%).
Based on household incomes, the Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 65.85% compared to 90.80% at Skyview Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet has 121 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 19.87% of student population. Skyview Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 299 or about 42.96% of student population.
Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet’s bilingual students comprise 19.70%, gifted and talented students, 7.06%, while 13.14% are in the special education program. Skyview Elementary School bilingual students comprise 42.96%, gifted and talented students, 3.30%, and 12.21% are in the special education program.
57 teachers employed at Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet have been teaching in the school for an average of about 5.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9.3 years. The 60 teachers at Skyview Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 3.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging 8.6 years.
Of its teaching staff, Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has six teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 12 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, nine teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 27 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers. Skyview Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has six teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, ten teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 16 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 18 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including ten beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet there are 51 female teachers and five male teachers. Of its teaching staff, five special education teachers are being assisted by 19 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has two staff members in the school administration department and nine more working as school support staff.
