Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. The curriculum is structured around the fundamentals of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music and reading.
When we compared Gulledge Elementary School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, with Isaacs Early Childhood School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Gulledge Elementary School has a regular student population of 562 with a 13.3 students/teacher ratio while Isaacs Early Childhood School has 245 students and a student-teacher ratio of 10 students/teacher ratio.
Gulledge Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 93 in student achievement, 90 in school progress and 88 in closing performance gaps. It scored 92 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Isaacs Early Childhood School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted only 89 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Gulledge Elementary School and Isaacs Early Childhood School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at Gulledge Elementary School. They make up for 52.49% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (20.82%), Hispanics (11.92%), African Americans (8.54%), Two or More Races (5.34%) and Native Americans (0.89%).
The student population at Isaacs Early Childhood School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 37.14%, followed by Asians (22.86%), Whites or Caucasians (20.82%), African Americans (15.10%), Two or More Races (3.27%) and Native Americans (0.82%).
Based on household incomes, the Gulledge Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 16.73% compared to 51.84% at Isaacs Early Childhood School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Gulledge Elementary School has 145 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 25.80% of student population. Isaacs Early Childhood School has more ELLs at 153 or about 62.45% of student population.
Gulledge Elementary School 10.68% are in the special education program, 10.14% are in the gifted and talented program, and bilingual students comprise 24.56% students. Isaacs Early Childhood School has no gifted and talented student, while 47.35% are in the special education program, and bilingual students comprise 62.45% students.
42 teachers employed at Gulledge Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 7.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9.4 years. The 24 teachers at Isaacs Early Childhood School have been serving the school for an average of 8.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.4 years.
Of its teaching staff, Gulledge Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 11 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, eight teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 17 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including three beginning teachers. Isaacs Early Childhood School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has three teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, eight teachers have worked for 11-20 years, six teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while seven teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including one beginning teacher only.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Gulledge Elementary School there are 37 female teachers and four male teachers. Of its teaching staff, five special education teachers are being assisted by four teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has two staff members in the school administration department and four more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Isaacs Early Childhood School has an all-female teaching staff. Of its teaching staff, seven special education teachers are being assisted by 39 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
