Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Glenoaks Elementary School, which is a part of NORTHSIDE ISD, with Cody Elementary School, which is a part of NORTHSIDE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Glenoaks Elementary School has a regular student population of 551 with a 12.4 students/teacher ratio while Cody Elementary School has 520 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11.8 students/teacher ratio.
Glenoaks Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 56 in student achievement, 72 in school progress and 67 in closing performance gaps. It scored 71 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Cody Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 65 in student achievement, 90 in school progress, 76 in closing performance gaps and 86 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Cody Elementary School's one out of seven distinction is in Science. Glenoaks Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Glenoaks Elementary School. They make up for 55.72% of student population, followed by Asians (16.70%), African Americans (9.44%), Whites or Caucasians (9.44%), Two or More Races (8.53%) and Native Americans (0.18%).
At Cody Elementary School, Hispanics make up 87.31% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (5.96%), African Americans (3.65%), Two or More Races (2.69%) and Asians (0.38%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Glenoaks Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 90.74% compared to 84.23% at Cody Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Glenoaks Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 39.20% of its student population compared to 14.04% at Cody Elementary School.
In addition, Glenoaks Elementary School has 36.48% bilingual students, 2.00% are in the gifted and talented program, while 8.35% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Cody Elementary School with 12.69% bilingual students, 4.04% gifted and talented students and 19.42% students in the special education program.
