When we compared George Bush High School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, with Dulles High School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
George Bush High School’s regular student population is 2,513 with a student-teacher ratio of 18.4 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Dulles High School is 2,390 students and a student-teacher ratio of 16.6 students/teacher ratio.
George Bush High School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 76 in student achievement, 79 in school progress and 72 in closing performance gaps. It scored 77 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Dulles High School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 92 in student achievement, 87 in school progress, 80 in closing performance gaps and 88 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. George Bush High School’s only distinction designation is in Science. Dulles High School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and post-secondary.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at George Bush High School. They make up for 41.94% of student population, followed by African Americans (37.72%), Asians (13.97%), Whites or Caucasians (4.06%), Two or More Races (1.87%) and Native Americans (0.20%).
The student population at Dulles High School is also predominantly by Asians at 40.75%, followed by African Americans (21.72%), Hispanics (21.05%), Whites or Caucasians (13.14%), Two or More Races (3.05%) and Native Americans (0.25%).
Based on household incomes, George Bush High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 65.62% compared to 40.79% at Dulles High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, George Bush High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 16.55% of its student population compared to 8.49% at Dulles High School.
In addition, George Bush High School has 16.28% bilingual students, 1.23% are in the gifted and talented program, while 9.43% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Dulles High School with 8.20% bilingual students, 15.61% gifted and talented students and 8.91% students in the special education program.
George Bush High School's 136 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.2 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 9.5 years. Dulles High School's 144 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 12 years.
Of its teaching staff, George Bush High School has five teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has seven teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 35 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 22 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 58 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including nine beginning teachers. Dulles High School has eight teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 20 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 43 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 25 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 41 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including seven beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. George Bush High School employs 82 female teachers and 54 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 16 special education teachers are being assisted by 23 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs six staff members in the school administration department and 14 more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Dulles High School employs 88 female teachers and 56 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 23 special education teachers are being assisted by 25 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs six staff members in the school administration department and 14 more working as school support staff.
