Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared G W Robinson, which is a part of CLEAR CREEK ISD, with Lavace Stewart Elementary School, which is a part of CLEAR CREEK ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
G W Robinson has a regular student population of 529 with a 17.1 students/teacher ratio while Lavace Stewart Elementary School has 693 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15.9 students/teacher ratio.
G W Robinson performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 86 in student achievement, 91 in school progress and 88 in closing performance gaps. On the other hand, Lavace Stewart Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 73 in student achievement, 75 in school progress, 72 in closing performance gaps and 74 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for G W Robinson and Lavace Stewart Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at G W Robinson. They make up for 64.84% of student population, followed by Hispanics (21.36%), Two or More Races (5.48%), African Americans (4.91%), Asians (2.46%) and Native Americans (0.95%).
At Lavace Stewart Elementary School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 59.02% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (32.90%), Two or More Races (3.61%), African Americans (3.17%), Asians (1.15%) and Native Americans (0.14%).
Based on household incomes, the G W Robinson’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 33.46% compared to 60.75% at Lavace Stewart Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, G W Robinson has 26 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 4.91% of student population. Lavace Stewart Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 287 or about 41.41% of student population.
G W Robinson’s bilingual students comprise 4.91%, gifted and talented students, 15.31%, while 10.78% are in the special education program. Lavace Stewart Elementary School bilingual students comprise 55.56%, gifted and talented students, 9.38%, and 16.74% are in the special education program.
30 teachers employed at G W Robinson have been teaching in the school for an average of about 6.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.7 years. The 43 teachers at Lavace Stewart Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 4.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 8 years.
Of its teaching staff, G W Robinson no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has six teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 11 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, four teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while ten teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher. Lavace Stewart Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has two teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 12 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 11 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 15 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including four beginning teachers.
