When we compared Forest Brook Middle School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, with Clifton Middle School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, we noted a huge gap in ratings.
Forest Brook Middle School’s regular student population is 742 with a 20.5 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Clifton Middle School is 555 students and a 16.1 students/teacher ratio.
Forest Brook Middle School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365 (Not Rated per SB 1365) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 52 in student achievement, 60 in school progress and 59 in closing performance gaps. It scored 59 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Clifton Middle School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 58 in student achievement, 77 in school progress, 68 in closing performance gaps and 74 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Forest Brook Middle School and Clifton Middle School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at Forest Brook Middle School. They make up for 56.74% of student population, followed by Hispanics (40.30%), Whites or Caucasians (1.62%), Two or More Races (0.81%), Asians (0.27%) and Native Americans (0.27%).
At Clifton Middle School, Hispanics make up 80.00% of student population, followed by African Americans (15.50%), Whites or Caucasians (1.80%), Two or More Races (1.62%), Asians (0.72%) and Native Americans (0.36%).
Based on household incomes, the Forest Brook Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 98.52% compared to 98.56% at Clifton Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Forest Brook Middle School has 186 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 25.07% of student population. Clifton Middle School has significantly more ELLs at 261 or about 47.03% of student population.
In addition, Forest Brook Middle School has 23.99% bilingual students, 2.56% are in the gifted and talented program, while 13.21% are in the special education program.
