It is in this area where the two schools differ. Fleming Middle School’s three out of seven distinctions are in Science, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Thomas Middle School's five out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at Fleming Middle School. They make up for 60.26% of student population, followed by Hispanics (38.42%), Whites or Caucasians (0.79%) and Two or More Races (0.53%). There is no Asians and Native Americansstudents in the school.
At Thomas Middle School, African Americans make up 67.43% of student population, followed by Hispanics (29.31%), Whites or Caucasians (1.34%), Two or More Races (0.96%), Asians (0.57%) and Native Americans (0.19%).
Based on household incomes, Fleming Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 97.37% compared to 95.79% at Thomas Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Fleming Middle School has 83 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 21.84% of student population. Thomas Middle School has more ELLs at 87 or about 16.67% of student population.
