Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Evelyn Turlington Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in Science and post-secondary. Except for post-secondary, Roberts Road Elementary School earned one out of seven distinctions.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Evelyn Turlington Elementary School. They make up for 63.36% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (26.91%), African Americans (4.87%), Asians (2.48%), Two or More Races (1.89%) and Native Americans (0.30%).

Based on household incomes, Evelyn Turlington Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 68.22% compared to 65.05% at Roberts Road Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Evelyn Turlington Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 40.62% of its student population compared to 30.00% at Roberts Road Elementary School.
In addition, Evelyn Turlington Elementary School has 40.62% bilingual students, 3.08% are in the gifted and talented program, while 13.70% are in the special education program.
