Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. It is in this area where the two schools differ. Edward Titche Elementary School’s three out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Lakewood Elementary School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Edward Titche Elementary School. They make up for 61.99% of student population, followed by African Americans (34.39%), Whites or Caucasians (1.88%), Two or More Races (1.16%), Asians (0.29%) and Native Americans (0.29%).
At Lakewood Elementary School, Whites or Caucasians make up 78.91% of student population, followed by Hispanics (11.26%), Two or More Races (5.03%), Asians (1.75%), African Americans (1.64%) and Native Americans (1.31%).
Based on household incomes, Edward Titche Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 97.83% compared to 5.79% at Lakewood Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Edward Titche Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 47.11% of its student population compared to 3.17% at Lakewood Elementary School.
In addition, Edward Titche Elementary School has 46.68% bilingual students, 13.29% are in the gifted and talented program, while 10.40% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Lakewood Elementary School with 9.95% bilingual students, 49.40% gifted and talented students and 8.31% students in the special education program.
