As your children go through high school, choosing the right school is equally important as deciding on a perfect home. High school is when students are given the tools to figure out the paths they want to pursue as adults. There are more subjects and extra-curricular activities that students can choose from. When we compared Dulles High School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, with George Bush High School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Dulles High School’s regular student population is 2,390 with a student-teacher ratio of 16.6 students/teacher ratio. The student population at George Bush High School is 2,513 students and a student-teacher ratio of 18.4 students/teacher ratio.
Dulles High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 92 in student achievement, 87 in school progress and 80 in closing performance gaps. It scored 88 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, George Bush High School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 76 in student achievement, 79 in school progress, 72 in closing performance gaps and 77 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Dulles High School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and post-secondary. George Bush High School’s only distinction designation is in Science.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at Dulles High School. They make up for 40.75% of student population, followed by African Americans (21.72%), Hispanics (21.05%), Whites or Caucasians (13.14%), Two or More Races (3.05%) and Native Americans (0.25%).
The student population at George Bush High School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 41.94%, followed by African Americans (37.72%), Asians (13.97%), Whites or Caucasians (4.06%), Two or More Races (1.87%) and Native Americans (0.20%).
Based on household incomes, the Dulles High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 40.79% compared to 65.62% at George Bush High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Dulles High School has 203 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 8.49% of student population. George Bush High School has significantly more ELLs at 416 or about 16.55% of student population.
Dulles High School’s bilingual students comprise 8.20%, gifted and talented students, 15.61%, while 8.91% are in the special education program. George Bush High School bilingual students comprise 16.28%, gifted and talented students, 1.23%, and 9.43% are in the special education program.
Dulles High School's 144 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 12 years. George Bush High School's 136 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.2 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 9.5 years.
Of its teaching staff, Dulles High School has eight teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 20 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 43 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 25 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 41 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including seven beginning teachers. George Bush High School has five teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has seven teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 35 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 22 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 58 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including nine beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Dulles High School employs 88 female teachers and 56 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 23 special education teachers are being assisted by 25 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs six staff members in the school administration department and 14 more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, George Bush High School employs 82 female teachers and 54 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 16 special education teachers are being assisted by 23 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs six staff members in the school administration department and 14 more working as school support staff.
