Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Dooley Elementary School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, with Huffman Elementary School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Dooley Elementary School has a regular student population of 302 with a 9.4 students/teacher ratio while Huffman Elementary School has 557 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13 students/teacher ratio.
Dooley Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 79 in student achievement, 91 in school progress and 89 in closing performance gaps. It scored 90 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Huffman Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 77 in student achievement, 90 in school progress, 81 in closing performance gaps and 87 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Dooley Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Huffman Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Dooley Elementary School. They make up for 34.44% of student population, followed by Hispanics (32.78%), African Americans (14.90%), Asians (11.26%), Two or More Races (4.97%) and Native Americans (1.66%).
The student population at Huffman Elementary School is also predominantly by African Americans at 36.09%, followed by Hispanics (27.29%), Whites or Caucasians (19.57%), Asians (8.98%), Two or More Races (7.36%) and Native Americans (0.36%).
Based on household incomes, the Dooley Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 44.70% compared to 56.73% at Huffman Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Dooley Elementary School has 62 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 20.53% of student population. Huffman Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 97 or about 17.41% of student population.
In addition, Dooley Elementary School has 19.54% bilingual students, 9.93% are in the gifted and talented program, while 18.21% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Huffman Elementary School with 17.06% bilingual students, 10.05% gifted and talented students and 12.21% students in the special education program.

The 43 teachers at Huffman Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 5.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging 8.1 years.

Huffman Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 11 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 11 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 13 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including five beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Dooley Elementary School there are 30 female teachers and two male teachers.
