Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Danish Elementary School, which is a part of CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS ISD, with Walker Elementary School, which is a part of CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Danish Elementary School has a regular student population of 953 with a 12.9 students/teacher ratio while Walker Elementary School has 975 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.7 students/teacher ratio.
Danish Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Danish Elementary School and Walker Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Danish Elementary School. They make up for 43.34% of student population, followed by African Americans (35.78%), Whites or Caucasians (10.18%), Asians (7.03%), Two or More Races (2.94%) and Native Americans (0.73%).
The student population at Walker Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 53.95%, followed by African Americans (28.31%), Whites or Caucasians (9.95%), Two or More Races (4.00%), Asians (3.18%) and Native Americans (0.62%).
Based on household incomes, Danish Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 81.22% compared to 79.08% at Walker Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Danish Elementary School has 263 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 27.60% of student population. Walker Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 306 or about 31.38% of student population.
Danish Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 26.86%, gifted and talented students, 3.15%, while 12.49% are in the special education program. Walker Elementary School bilingual students comprise 30.97%, gifted and talented students, 1.85%, and 15.18% are in the special education program.
