Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Collins Elementary School, which is a part of ALIEF ISD, with Petrosky Elementary School, which is a part of ALIEF ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
Collins Elementary School has a regular student population of 817 with a 11.7 students/teacher ratio while Petrosky Elementary School has 571 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11.7 students/teacher ratio.
Collins Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Petrosky Elementary School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Collins Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Collins Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 67.69% of student population, followed by African Americans (17.50%), Asians (12.85%), Whites or Caucasians (1.47%) and Native Americans (0.37%). There is no Two or More Races student in the school.
The student population at Petrosky Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 41.68%, followed by African Americans (35.55%), Asians (14.54%), Whites or Caucasians (6.13%), Native Americans (1.23%) and Two or More Races (0.18%).
Based on household incomes, Collins Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 90.94% compared to 81.61% at Petrosky Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Collins Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 83.35% of its student population compared to 39.40% at Petrosky Elementary School.
In addition, Collins Elementary School has 83.35% bilingual students, 0.61% are in the gifted and talented program, while 9.55% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Petrosky Elementary School with 47.64% bilingual students, 2.45% gifted and talented students and 12.78% students in the special education program.
