Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. This is a critical transition period for students. As they assert their independence, their responsibilities increase, they attend multiple classes and their academic performance are closely monitored and graded. Schools focus on preparing them for the more rigorous academic grind in high school.

When we compared Clear Lake Intermediate, which is a part of Clear Creek ISD, with League City Intermediate, which is a part of Clear Creek ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.

Clear Lake Intermediate’s regular student population is 930 with a 16.8 students/teacher ratio. The student population at League City Intermediate is 1066 students and a 17.6 students/teacher ratio.
Performance Indicators
Clear Lake Intermediate earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 84 in student achievement, 72 in school progress, and 77 in closing performance gaps. It scored 82 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

On the other hand, League City Intermediate performed better to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 93 in student achievement, 88 in school progress, 89 in closing performance gaps and 92 overall in post-secondary readiness.

Distinction Designations
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.

League City Intermediate’s three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and post-secondary and with 25% student progress. Clear Lake Intermediate has no distinction.

Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Clear Lake Intermediate. They make up for 38.82% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (36.24%), African Americans (10.86%), Asians (7.85%), Two or More Races (5.38%) and Native Americans (0.43%).

At League City Intermediate, Whites or Caucasians are the biggest group, comprising 58.91% of student population, followed by Hispanics (22.23%), Asians (7.79%), Two or More Races (6.10%), African Americans (4.88%) and Native Americans (0.09%).

Based on household incomes, Clear Lake Intermediate’s economically disadvantaged students are slightly lower at 34.41% compared to 13.60% at League City Intermediate.

In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Clear Lake Intermediate has a slightly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 11.83% of its student population compared to 4.13% at League City Intermediate.

Clear Lake Intermediate’s 55 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 11.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging 13.9 years. Teachers at League City Intermediate, numbering 61 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 7.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging 12.1 years.

Of its teaching staff, Clear Lake Intermediate has 15 teachers serving the school for over 20 years, 22 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, four teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 12 teachers have worked for 1-5 years, including three beginning teachers.
