Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Carver Elementary School, which is a part of GOOSE CREEK CISD, with Crockett Elementary School, which is a part of GOOSE CREEK CISD, we noted a wide disparity in ratings.
Carver Elementary School has a regular student population of 653 with a 14.3 students/teacher ratio while Crockett Elementary School has 689 students and a student-teacher ratio of 16.4 students/teacher ratio.
Carver Elementary School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365 (Not Rated per SB 1365) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 62 in student achievement, 70 in school progress and 68 in closing performance gaps. It scored 69 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Crockett Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 80 in student achievement, 86 in school progress, 77 in closing performance gaps and 83 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Crockett Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science and post-secondary. Carver Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Carver Elementary School. They make up for 65.54% of student population, followed by African Americans (23.58%), Whites or Caucasians (7.66%), Two or More Races (1.99%), Native Americans (0.77%) and Asians (0.46%).
At Crockett Elementary School, Hispanics make up 68.65% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (14.51%), African Americans (13.06%), Two or More Races (1.74%), Asians (1.31%) and Native Americans (0.73%).
Based on household incomes, Carver Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 88.82% compared to 72.86% at Crockett Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Carver Elementary School has 164 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 25.11% of student population. Crockett Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 208 or about 30.19% of student population.
In addition, Carver Elementary School has 32.01% bilingual students, 2.91% are in the gifted and talented program, while 12.40% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Crockett Elementary School with 29.90% bilingual students, 7.40% gifted and talented students and 10.30% students in the special education program.
