Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Campbell Elementary School, which is a part of KATY ISD, with Cimarron Elementary School, which is a part of KATY ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
Campbell Elementary School has a regular student population of 1,483 with a 16.3 students/teacher ratio while Cimarron Elementary School has 606 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.8 students/teacher ratio.
Campbell Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 92 in student achievement, 89 in school progress and an impressive100 in closing performance gaps. It scored 94 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Cimarron Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 75 in student achievement, 77 in school progress, 73 in closing performance gaps and 76 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Campbell Elementary School's one out of seven distinction is in 25% closing performance gaps. Cimarron Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Campbell Elementary School. They make up for 31.56% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (29.47%), Asians (24.41%), African Americans (9.64%), Two or More Races (4.65%) and Native Americans (0.27%).
The student population at Cimarron Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 38.78%, followed by Hispanics (35.81%), African Americans (14.69%), Two or More Races (7.10%), Asians (3.47%) and Native Americans (0.17%).
Based on household incomes, the Campbell Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 17.40% compared to 61.06% at Cimarron Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Campbell Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 34.73% of its student population compared to 12.05% at Cimarron Elementary School.
Campbell Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 33.85%, gifted and talented students, 6.14%, while 13.96% are in the special education program. Cimarron Elementary School bilingual students comprise 11.72%, gifted and talented students, 2.48%, and 19.97% are in the special education program.
91 teachers employed at Campbell Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 5.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.5 years. The 47 teachers at Cimarron Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 5 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9.3 years.
Of its teaching staff, Campbell Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has six teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 33 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 20 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 26 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including six beginning teachers.
