Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Bruce Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, with Wainwright Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Both schools garnered only one distinction designation or award for performance. This is in Science.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Bruce Elementary School is African Americans who make up nearly 71.84% of student population, followed by Hispanics (26.72%), Asians (0.57%), Two or More Races (0.57%) and Whites or Caucasians (0.29%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Wainwright Elementary School, Hispanics make up 73.59% of student population, followed by African Americans (20.56%), Whites or Caucasians (5.19%), Two or More Races (0.43%) and Asians (0.22%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Bruce Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 98.28% compared to 94.16% at Wainwright Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Bruce Elementary School has 40 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 11.49% of student population. Wainwright Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 184 or about 39.83% of student population.
Bruce Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 10.92%, gifted and talented students, 4.31%, while 8.33% are in the special education program. Wainwright Elementary School bilingual students comprise 47.62%, gifted and talented students, 2.60%, and 16.02% are in the special education program.
