Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Bradley Elementary School, which is a part of CONROE ISD, with San Jacinto Elementary School, which is a part of CONROE ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
Bradley Elementary School has a regular student population of 1,006 with a 16.5 students/teacher ratio while San Jacinto Elementary School has 494 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.2 students/teacher ratio.
Bradley Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 90 in student achievement, 92 in school progress and an impressive100 in closing performance gaps. It scored 94 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, San Jacinto Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 72 in student achievement, 79 in school progress, 68 in closing performance gaps and 76 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Bradley Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. San Jacinto Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Bradley Elementary School. They make up for 41.95% of student population, followed by Hispanics (31.01%), African Americans (16.40%), Asians (5.77%), Two or More Races (4.08%) and Native Americans (0.50%).
At San Jacinto Elementary School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 60.32% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (33.60%), Two or More Races (2.83%), African Americans (2.63%), Native Americans (0.40%) and Asians (0.20%).
Based on household incomes, the Bradley Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 34.59% compared to 83.00% at San Jacinto Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Bradley Elementary School has 96 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 9.54% of student population. San Jacinto Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 190 or about 38.46% of student population.
Bradley Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 9.24%, gifted and talented students, 5.17%, while 12.43% are in the special education program. San Jacinto Elementary School bilingual students comprise 38.06%, gifted and talented students, 2.23%, and 13.56% are in the special education program.
