When we compared Benjamin Franklin International Exploratory Acad, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, with Hector P Garcia Middle School, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Benjamin Franklin International Exploratory Acad’s only distinction designation is in Post-Secondary. Hector P Garcia Middle School's three out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Benjamin Franklin International Exploratory Acad is Hispanics who make up nearly 70.64% of student population, followed by African Americans (21.56%), Whites or Caucasians (4.00%), Asians (1.54%), Two or More Races (1.54%) and Native Americans (0.62%).
At Hector P Garcia Middle School, Hispanics make up 94.35% of student population, followed by African Americans (4.03%), Whites or Caucasians (1.13%), Native Americans (0.32%) and Asians (0.16%). There is no Two or More Races student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Benjamin Franklin International Exploratory Acad’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 87.37% compared to 95.16% at Hector P Garcia Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Benjamin Franklin International Exploratory Acad has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 55.65% of its student population compared to 70.81% at Hector P Garcia Middle School.
In addition, Benjamin Franklin International Exploratory Acad has 51.54% bilingual students, 15.91% are in the gifted and talented program, while 14.48% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Hector P Garcia Middle School with 65.00% bilingual students, 17.74% gifted and talented students and 16.77% students in the special education program.
