Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Bell Elementary School, which is a part of TYLER ISD, with T J Austin Elementary School, which is a part of TYLER ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Bell Elementary School has a regular student population of 535 with a 15.7 students/teacher ratio while T J Austin Elementary School has 332 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.2 students/teacher ratio.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Bell Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and post-secondary. T J Austin Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Bell Elementary School. They make up for 55.33% of student population, followed by African Americans (27.85%), Whites or Caucasians (12.15%), Two or More Races (3.74%), Asians (0.75%) and Native Americans (0.19%).
At T J Austin Elementary School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 64.76% of student population, followed by African Americans (32.83%), Two or More Races (1.51%) and Whites or Caucasians (0.90%). There is no Asians and Native Americansstudents in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Bell Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 88.22% compared to 97.29% at T J Austin Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Bell Elementary School has 144 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 26.92% of student population. T J Austin Elementary School has more ELLs at 148 or about 44.58% of student population.
Bell Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 26.36%, gifted and talented students, 6.54%, while 17.57% are in the special education program. T J Austin Elementary School bilingual students comprise 43.98%, gifted and talented students, 3.01%, and 10.84% are in the special education program.
