Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Barron Elementary School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, with Beverly Elementary School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
Barron Elementary School has a regular student population of 348 with a 9.7 students/teacher ratio while Beverly Elementary School has 360 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12 students/teacher ratio.
Barron Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 58 in student achievement, 80 in school progress and 74 in closing performance gaps. Beverly Elementary School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Barron Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Barron Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 77.01% of student population, followed by African Americans (11.78%), Whites or Caucasians (6.03%), Asians (3.16%) and Two or More Races (2.01%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Beverly Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 37.78%, followed by Asians (32.78%), Hispanics (11.94%), African Americans (10.28%) and Two or More Races (7.22%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Barron Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 80.46% compared to 24.72% at Beverly Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Barron Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 60.34% of its student population compared to 15.28% at Beverly Elementary School.
In addition, Barron Elementary School has 60.92% bilingual students, 5.17% are in the gifted and talented program, while 17.82% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Beverly Elementary School with 15.28% bilingual students, 16.39% gifted and talented students and 11.39% students in the special education program.
