Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Banuelos Elementary School, which is a part of GOOSE CREEK CISD, with James Bowie Elementary School, which is a part of GOOSE CREEK CISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Banuelos Elementary School has a regular student population of 933 with a 18.7 students/teacher ratio while James Bowie Elementary School has 732 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.1 students/teacher ratio.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Banuelos Elementary School and James Bowie Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Banuelos Elementary School. They make up for 59.16% of student population, followed by African Americans (20.79%), Whites or Caucasians (13.72%), Two or More Races (3.64%), Asians (2.14%) and Native Americans (0.32%).
At James Bowie Elementary School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 63.39% of student population, followed by African Americans (22.13%), Whites or Caucasians (12.43%), Two or More Races (1.64%), Native Americans (0.27%) and Asians (0.14%).
Based on household incomes, the Banuelos Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 66.35% compared to 77.73% at James Bowie Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Banuelos Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 22.62% of its student population compared to 23.91% at James Bowie Elementary School.
Banuelos Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 22.19%, gifted and talented students, 7.40%, while 10.93% are in the special education program. James Bowie Elementary School bilingual students comprise 23.36%, gifted and talented students, 4.37%, and 16.26% are in the special education program.
49 teachers employed at Banuelos Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 6.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging 8.4 years. The 51 teachers at James Bowie Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 5.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9.6 years.
Of its teaching staff, Banuelos Elementary School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has three teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 15 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, seven teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 15 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including nine beginning teachers. Of its teaching staff, 11 special education teachers are being assisted by 25 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
