When we compared Avalos P-Tech School, which is a part of ALDINE ISD, with Macarthur High School, which is a part of ALDINE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Avalos P-Tech School’s regular student population is 365 with a student-teacher ratio of 15.4 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Macarthur High School is 3,542 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17.8 students/teacher ratio.
Avalos P-Tech School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 82 in student achievement, 89 in school progress and 77 in closing performance gaps. It scored 85 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Macarthur High School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 64 in student achievement, 72 in school progress, 65 in closing performance gaps and 70 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Avalos P-Tech School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary and with 25% student progress. Macarthur High School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Avalos P-Tech School is Hispanics who make up nearly 83.01% of student population, followed by African Americans (14.52%), Whites or Caucasians (1.92%) and Asians (0.55%). There is no Native Americans and Two or More Racesstudents in the school.
At Macarthur High School, Hispanics make up 92.38% of student population, followed by African Americans (5.22%), Whites or Caucasians (1.86%), Native Americans (0.17%), Asians (0.14%) and Two or More Races (0.14%).
Based on household incomes, Avalos P-Tech School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 90.96% compared to 90.20% at Macarthur High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Avalos P-Tech School has 53 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 14.52% of student population. Macarthur High School has significantly more ELLs at 1005 or about 28.37% of student population.
Avalos P-Tech School’s bilingual students comprise 14.52%, gifted and talented students, 14.52%, while 3.01% are in the special education program. Macarthur High School bilingual students comprise 27.30%, gifted and talented students, 5.73%, and 6.80% are in the special education program.
Avalos P-Tech School's 23 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 4.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 11.8 years. Macarthur High School's 198 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 9.5 years.
Of its teaching staff, Avalos P-Tech School has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has three teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, five teachers have worked for 11-20 years, six teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while four teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including four beginning teachers. Macarthur High School has seven teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 19 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 37 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 50 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 69 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 17 beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Avalos P-Tech School employs 14 female teachers and nine male teachers. Of its teaching staff, two special education teachers are being assisted by one teacher only aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs zero staff members in the school administration department and three more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Macarthur High School employs 115 female teachers and 83 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 19 special education teachers are being assisted by 22 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs 13 staff members in the school administration department and 30 more working as school support staff.
