When we compared Atascocita High School, which is a part of HUMBLE ISD, with Humble High School, which is a part of HUMBLE ISD, we noted a wide disparity in ratings.
Atascocita High School’s regular student population is 3,778 with a student-teacher ratio of 17.2 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Humble High School is 2,816 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15.4 students/teacher ratio.
Atascocita High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 82 in student achievement, 78 in school progress and 76 in closing performance gaps. It scored 80 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Humble High School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365. The school posted 69 in student achievement, 70 in school progress, 66 in closing performance gaps and 69 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Atascocita High School and Humble High School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Atascocita High School. They make up for 34.73% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (34.15%), African Americans (25.01%), Two or More Races (2.96%), Asians (2.41%) and Native Americans (0.40%).
At Humble High School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 55.15% of student population, followed by African Americans (36.75%), Whites or Caucasians (4.30%), Two or More Races (1.88%), Asians (0.89%) and Native Americans (0.28%).
Based on household incomes, the Atascocita High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 34.52% compared to 67.19% at Humble High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Atascocita High School has 133 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 3.52% of student population. Humble High School has significantly more ELLs at 520 or about 18.47% of student population.
Atascocita High School’s bilingual students comprise 3.04%, gifted and talented students, 8.18%, while 8.63% are in the special education program. Humble High School bilingual students comprise 17.86%, gifted and talented students, 2.95%, and 10.09% are in the special education program.
Atascocita High School's 220 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 10.2 years. Humble High School's 183 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 5 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 9.6 years.
Of its teaching staff, Atascocita High School has three teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 23 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 67 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 50 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 63 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 15 beginning teachers. Humble High School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has 17 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 56 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 43 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 51 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 16 beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Atascocita High School employs 129 female teachers and 90 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 22 special education teachers are being assisted by 31 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs three staff members in the school administration department and 20 more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Humble High School employs 109 female teachers and 73 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 18 special education teachers are being assisted by 27 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs six staff members in the school administration department and 11 more working as school support staff.
