When we compared Anderson High School, which is a part of AUSTIN ISD, with Navarro Early College High School, which is a part of AUSTIN ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Anderson High School’s regular student population is 2,229 with a student-teacher ratio of 17.6 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Navarro Early College High School is 1,596 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.3 students/teacher ratio.
Anderson High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 93 in student achievement, 84 in school progress and 84 in closing performance gaps. It scored 90 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Navarro Early College High School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 80 in student achievement, 87 in school progress, 73 in closing performance gaps and 83 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Anderson High School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and post-secondary. Navarro Early College High School’s two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and post-secondary.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Anderson High School. They make up for 52.18% of student population, followed by Hispanics (29.61%), Asians (7.90%), Two or More Races (5.16%), African Americans (4.93%) and Native Americans (0.04%).
At Navarro Early College High School, Hispanics make up 88.03% of student population, followed by African Americans (6.64%), Whites or Caucasians (3.07%), Asians (1.63%) and Two or More Races (0.63%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Anderson High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 23.01% compared to 85.15% at Navarro Early College High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Anderson High School has 181 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 8.12% of student population. Navarro Early College High School has significantly more ELLs at 987 or about 61.84% of student population.
Anderson High School’s bilingual students comprise 7.54%, gifted and talented students, 17.00%, while 9.51% are in the special education program. Navarro Early College High School bilingual students comprise 61.40%, gifted and talented students, 7.46%, and 15.66% are in the special education program.
Anderson High School's 126 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 10.6 years. Navarro Early College High School's 111 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 9.5 years.
Of its teaching staff, Anderson High School has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 15 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 36 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 32 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 32 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including ten beginning teachers. Navarro Early College High School has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has five teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 36 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 28 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 35 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including six beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Anderson High School employs 67 female teachers and 59 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 14 special education teachers are being assisted by 24 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs five staff members in the school administration department and eight more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Navarro Early College High School employs 68 female teachers and 43 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 18 special education teachers are being assisted by 16 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs six staff members in the school administration department and six more working as school support staff.
