Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Anderson Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, with Walnut Bend Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Anderson Elementary School's one out of seven distinction is in with 25% student progress. Walnut Bend Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Anderson Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 76.83% of student population, followed by African Americans (18.89%), Asians (1.90%), Whites or Caucasians (1.59%) and Two or More Races (0.63%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Walnut Bend Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 45.35%, followed by African Americans (40.77%), Whites or Caucasians (8.27%), Asians (2.66%), Two or More Races (2.66%) and Native Americans (0.15%).
Based on household incomes, Anderson Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 93.02% compared to 86.85% at Walnut Bend Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Anderson Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 55.40% of its student population compared to 34.56% at Walnut Bend Elementary School.
In addition, Anderson Elementary School has 53.97% bilingual students, 3.65% are in the gifted and talented program, while 5.87% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Walnut Bend Elementary School with 33.83% bilingual students, 4.43% gifted and talented students and 6.20% students in the special education program.
