Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. This is a critical transition period for students. As they assert their independence, their responsibilities increase, they attend multiple classes and their academic performance are closely monitored and graded. Schools focus on preparing them for the more rigorous academic grind in high school.

When we compared Aledo Middle School, which is a part of Aledo ISD, with Mcanally Intermediate, which is a part of Aledo ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.

Aledo Middle School’s regular student population is 943 with a 19.6 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Mcanally Intermediate is 519 students and a 17 students/teacher ratio.
Performance Indicators
Aledo Middle School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 92 in student achievement, 91 in school progress, and 96 in closing performance gaps. It scored 93 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

On the other hand, Mcanally Intermediate garnered a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 92 in student achievement, 79 in school progress, 82 in closing performance gaps and 89 overall in post-secondary readiness.

Distinction Designations
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.

Aledo Middle School’s one out of seven distinction is in with 25% student progress. Mcanally Intermediate did not earn any distinction.

Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Aledo Middle School are Whites or Caucasians who make up nearly 78.69% of student population, followed by Hispanics (14.42%), Two or More Races (3.82%), African Americans (1.80%), Asians (0.95%) and Native Americans (0.21%).

At Mcanally Intermediate, Whites or Caucasians make up 77.26% of student population, followed by Hispanics (17.15%), Two or More Races (4.43%), Asians (0.58%) and African Americans (0.39%). There is no Native Americans student in the school

Based on household incomes, Aledo Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students are slightly lower at 13.57% compared to 16.96% at Mcanally Intermediate.

Aledo Middle School’s 48 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging 12.5 years. Teachers at Mcanally Intermediate, numbering 31 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 7.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.8 years.

Of its teaching staff, Aledo Middle School has seven teachers serving the school for over 20 years, 22 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, eight teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 11 teachers have worked for 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher.
