Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Adam Elementary School, which is a part of CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS ISD, with Metcalf Elementary School, which is a part of CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Adam Elementary School has a regular student population of 804 with a 10.7 students/teacher ratio while Metcalf Elementary School has 667 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.9 students/teacher ratio.
Adam Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. It is in this area where the two schools differ. Adam Elementary School’s three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science and with 25% student progress. Metcalf Elementary School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Adam Elementary School. They make up for 46.52% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (26.24%), African Americans (12.31%), Asians (9.08%), Two or More Races (5.10%) and Native Americans (0.50%).
At Metcalf Elementary School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 61.77% of student population, followed by African Americans (21.59%), Asians (7.05%), Whites or Caucasians (6.90%), Two or More Races (1.50%) and Native Americans (1.20%).
Based on household incomes, the Adam Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 71.52% compared to 83.21% at Metcalf Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Adam Elementary School has 193 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 24.00% of student population. Metcalf Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 233 or about 34.93% of student population.
Adam Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 23.51%, gifted and talented students, 2.61%, while 14.18% are in the special education program. Metcalf Elementary School bilingual students comprise 34.18%, gifted and talented students, 1.95%, and 7.50% are in the special education program.
