Canyon Lake High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 91 in student achievement, 86 in school progress and 78 in closing performance gaps. It scored 87 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

On the other hand, Smithson Valley High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 89 in student achievement, 80 in school progress, 92 in closing performance gaps and 90 overall in post-secondary readiness.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.

Canyon Lake High School's four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science, Social Studies and post-secondary. Smithson Valley High School did not earn any distinction.

Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Canyon Lake High School. They make up for 62.38% of student population, followed by Hispanics (32.83%), Two or More Races (2.25%), African Americans (1.31%), Asians (0.56%) and Native Americans (0.38%).

At Smithson Valley High School, Whites or Caucasians are the biggest group, comprising 56.24% of student population, followed by Hispanics (35.18%), Two or More Races (4.15%), African Americans (2.34%), Asians (1.53%) and Native Americans (0.29%).

Based on household incomes, Canyon Lake High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 34.33% compared to 14.44% at Smithson Valley High School.

In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Canyon Lake High School has 51 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 4.78% of student population. Smithson Valley High School has slightly more ELLs at 64 or about 3.05% of student population.

In addition, Canyon Lake High School has 4.69% bilingual students, 9.66% are in the gifted and talented program, while 16.04% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Smithson Valley High School with 2.86% bilingual students, 14.01% gifted and talented students and 13.25% students in the special education program.
