House

The roof is one of the most essential features of a home, yet it’s commonly overlooked when it comes to regular maintenance. It is best to conduct frequent checks to avoid costly repairs. Here are five ways to keep your roof in good condition.

  1. Check for leaks. To prevent a major leak, regularly check for water damage in your attic and on your ceilings. Some telltale signs of a leak include moldy smells or stains on the ceiling.
  2. Trim trees. A tree can do a great deal of damage if it falls on a roof, but it’s also important to make sure branches are not scratching your shingles. Over an extended period of time, this can damage the protective top layer, so make sure to trim the trees around your house.
  3. Check your shingles. If you see any shingles that are missing, cracked, or curved, it is probably time to contact a professional
  4. Clean your gutters. Although it can be one of the most dreaded household chores, cleaning gutters regularly can help preserve your roof. Gutters filled with debris can prevent water from draining properly and result in liquid seeping under your roof.
  5. Hire a pro. If you want to go above and beyond in your roof maintenance and make sure you aren’t missing any problem areas, call a professional roofer to complete an inspection. We usually have a roof inspection every few years on our properties. If there is a major storm, and it has been a while...it may be a good idea to call an inspector.

Thank you for the feedback. I agree. Texas weather can provide some extremes we might not be prepared for. From hail or snow to tornados, and hurricane storm surges, all of these things can take a toll on ones roof!

Great tips! I wouldve maintained and repaired the roof of our house myself but the heavy Texas snowstorm early this year caught me off guard! Didnt know it could snow this hard in Texas. I changed my mind about repairing the roof myself after the snowstorm but luckily, here in Lubbock, we have a solid roofing company that gets the job done. If youre also around the area, you could check out this website https://www.roofmasterlubbock.com/ to learn more about the services they offer.
