Stewart completes its first fully digital online closing in Texas

In today's Houston Chronicle, this was the headline. In 2006 REALTOR Magazine had an article titled Finally, e-Closings More Than a Pipe Dream. What has taken so long to have e-Closings become a reality in Texas. The Dallas Morning News offered this article by Arren Kimbel-Sannit on July 5th offering a further clarification about what has transpired to be able to offer online Closings.

According to the articles a law past by the Texas State Legislature that went into effect July 1, 2018 permits notaries to approve documents over two way video conferencing. Notarize is the Virginia base company that handled the notarization.

It is difficult today to know how often consumers will be able to take advantage of e-Closings. The process not only requires a notary set up to offer the service but a title company and a lender who are also prepared with acceptable technology to offer the alternative to a paper transaction.

How do you feel about e-Closings?
