Another of the enjoyable aspects of having your own place in the country is Vegetable Gardening.
Gardening success is tied to soil type. Your particular property, depending upon size, may have several different soil types present. Brenham Texas Farm & Ranch buyers can find out what soils are present on a particular property and what characteristics those soils have by researching a government soil survey for their county.

You can also find a simple to use soil map for land parcels on the Texas Forest Service - Plan My Land site. Here you can also use measuring length and area tools, length of a fence, size in acres of a pasture, etc.

Here are the "fruits" of my labor from our home garden in the Salem Community, Washington County, Brenham Texas. This is a single morning harvest.
Sweet corn, Sweet 100 Cherry Tomatoes, Cherokee Purple Tomatoes, Brandywine Tomatoes, Black Krim Tomatoes, Roma Tomatoes, Celebrity Tomatoes, Yellow Crook Neck Squash, Green Zucchini, Royalty Purple Pod Green Beans, Roma Italian Green Beans, Blue Lake Pole Beans, and Kentucky Wonder Pole Beans.
While not "Certified Organic" these home grown vegetables are as natural as you can get. Grown "pesticide free" in local soil mixed myself amended with home grown compost and my own "compost tea brew".
The only thing as good as eating your own vegetables, is giving the over production away to others to enjoy!
