Moving

Whether it’s the excitement of becoming a new homeowner or of getting your own place for the first time or just that potential for a new space after you’ve been in the same space for a long time, moving is something that draws you. Once, you would scour the newspaper for ads of homes for rent or homes to buy. Now it’s as easy as going online or even using apps like HAR and Zillow to find a home within your area and your budget with all of the amenities that you could desire.

Then comes the actual prospect of moving. Do you downsize what you have? Do you try to move your California king size bed? Do you hire a moving crew or do you trick all of your friends into helping by calling it a moving party and serve pizza afterwards. As these questions circulate in your mind so do others like: where do we get boxes and what about packing material? You start taking stock of what is in your house and wonder how much of it do you really need, then wow! How did we get so many things? Hiring movers varies widely from $450 to $500 for a small apartment to 1500 to $2,000+ for a four-bedroom house. This does not include pack up services - merely moving boxes and furniture.

Once you have found THE house, what do you do? Do you place a bid on it yourself and attempt to navigate the finances or do you hire a realtor (your best bet) to help you navigate all of the legal jargon and financial responsibility that comes with a mortgage. Then you can concentrate on packing away your fine china.

As everything starts to circulate through your mind, some form of stress or anxiety typically builds. Doubts may set in - why did you decide to move anyway? Statistically, it’s some sort of life event that is causing anxiety or stress (both good and bad) already. Aside from getting married or starting your own household, the main reasons why people in the United States move are due to job transfers, starting a family or simply wanting a better neighborhood. It’s almost moving season! More moves happen in the summer possibly because schools are in transition and in northern states, the weather is nicer.
