It's Rodeo Time Houston!

Dust off your boots, Houston! It’s Rodeo time! The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo is back February 27-March 18, 2018 with Garth Brooks opening and closing the shebang. The entertainment line up also seems to include all the chart topping gentlemen of country music.
Pre-rodeo events start January 19th with Go Rodeo Metro Cook Offs all around the city. Go Texan Day will be on February 23rd right in the middle of the BBQ Cook Off. The always popular cook off includes the carnival, live music and DJs.
Aside from music & food, are the actual Livestock & Horse Shows and the roping, riding, bucking rodeo. The Rodeo is separated into 2 categories – one more traditional and the other a faster paced play-off style show for rodeo goers less familiar with rodeo but eager for entertainment. All the heart stopping events are available: roping, steer wrestling, bronco and bareback horse riding, barrel racing and the always cute calf scramble.
The Horse Show held as part of the Livestock Show is globally recognized and cutting and ranching competitions are also held in the horse barn. The Livestock Show holds both junior and open competitions. The junior competition is for FFA & 4-H students from around the state to come show their animals in hopes of a cash prizes which will hopefully help with their next animal or college tuition. The open competition is for all ages – with a special youth division. Competitors in the open competition strive for the title Grand Champion.
Youth and agricultural development are the real focus of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Each year, more than 750 scholarships are awarded to Texas students by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This year’s commitment totals over $26 million in scholarships, prize money for junior competitors, grants and graduate assistance. Grants are given to organizations that support youth and support education and agricultural interests.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is also a giant economic booster for our city and it’s business people. A study on how the event has affected our economy in the past can be found here.
Let’s Rodeo, Houston!
