Christmas in Houston

There is always something to do in Houston and the surrounding area. The holiday season is no exception.

Is shopping your preferred destination?  High end stores abound at the Galleria or The Woodlands mall complete with Santa sightings, lights, trees and ice skating at the Galleria. Outlet malls offer deep discounts in Cypress and south of Houston at Tanger Outlets.

Wonderful light displays can be found all over from the Houston Zoo presenting ZooLights to the Lights in the Heights to Prestonwood subdivision’s annual themed event in Northwest Houston. The Strand in Galveston and Moody Gardens offer cheer to beach goers enjoying a milder December day. The Arboretum & Nature Center is all dressed up too. If you don’t mind a short trip, you can visit Santa’s Wonderland in College Station or go to Palestine for the Polar Express or to Alvin for a ride on the Christmas Train.

Catch a showing of a seasonal favorite - the Nutcracker with the Houston Ballet at the Smart Financial Center until January, then at the Hobby Center or with the Houston Repertoire Ballet in Tomball. The Ghost Story of Christmas, a Christmas Carol is playing at the Alley Theater and Hansel & Gretel is at the Rec Room.

Find a hip brunch in your area here before setting off to one of the many, many small business markets or farmers markets popping up almost everywhere! Want to spend more time spreading cheer and less time in the kitchen? Reserve a seat for Christmas Eve Dinner at one of these restaurants .

What are your favorite holiday traditions or destinations? You are sure to find them or make new ones in the greater Houston area!
