According to Harvard Universitys Joint Center for Housing Studies, they predict a steady and significant rise in remodeling projects projected to reach 401 Billion of annual spending by the third quarter of 2022.  Homeowners today are remodeling for many reasons:

  • Home Office - making improvements to make the office appear workable for zoom calls, suppressing noise, and increasing functionality. Many people are now permanently working from home so a nice home office is a must.
  • Loved Ones - since the pandemic, many families have decided to live closer so they can be better cared for. This means additional rooms may need to be added.
  • Kitchen/Baths - with more time being spent at home for the past 2 years, many have decided that these rooms need to be updated and made more useful.

Here are some areas to consider when renovating your home:

  • Refresh the Staircase - maybe it needs paint or new flooring from wear and tear. New wrought-iron spindles instead of wood are a nice touch and makes for a more dramatic entryway.
  • Modernize the Bathrooms - easy fixes like fresh paint, cabinet hardware and countertops can make a huge splash without major construction involved. Upgrading a shower with modern tile and frameless glass can make a huge difference. New fixtures in the shower can also give it a fresh appearance.
  • Install New Flooring - nothing says dated like old, worn carpet. There are many new options that can update the floors that are also long-lasting. Check out tile, wood-looking tile, LVT, and unique plank patterns in different sizes and colors. These floors are water resistant and can take a lot of abuse from kids and pets.
  • Define Outdoor Spaces - also since the Covid-19 pandemic, many people are staying at home and enjoying the outdoors. Increasing the size of the back patio and having it covered can create a nice retreat that can be used year-round. It can also turn into an extra space for entertaining and cooking with an outdoor kitchen.
  • Update Landscaping - original landscaping from when the home was built (six bushes, two saigo palms, and a couple of trees) can date the house. Removing some of these and replanting with fresh plants can increase your curb appeal. Always a good idea to bring in some color with multi-layer flower beds to bring new vitality to your home.
