As a real estate professional with Realty Associates, Leonila specializes in residential real estate where she been recognized by Beazer Homes as the top sales REALTOR® for Houston in 2006 and 2007.  She is one of the first graduates of the Texas Association of Realtors Leadership Program.  In addition, she obtained the distinguished Graduate Realtor Institute designation in 2007.  Recently, she is in process of becoming a Certified International Property Specialist.  Leonila is a member of the  HAR Bay Area Political Affairs/Leadership Advisory Group and the  NRG/Young Realtors Advisory Group of the Houston Association of Realtors. 

Her passion is to educate her clients on the advantages of owning real estate. Leonila is an ordained minister and has  taught English reading and writing to Spanish speaking adults.  As a Certified Personal Trainer, Leonila taught instructors on how to apply training techniques to achieve the demands of their training program.  She is a graduate of the University of Houston Leadership and Management Program.

Mrs. Salazar holds a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration.  Prior to becoming a real estate professional, she served as Program Coordinator for Texas Southern University. Having been licensed in four other states, I feel truly blessed to be a part of the Houston Association of Realtors® . Being exposed to other associations brings a real appreciation to our association and it’s forward thinking. I would be honored to be a larger part of that.

I earned my Texas Real Estate license in early 2003 after moving to Houston in 2002. I practiced real estate successfully until February 2007 then earned my Texas broker license and opened my own office - RE/MAX Realty Center which has grown to 48 agents in just over two years.

I have had the pleasure of serving our association as the Chairman’s Appointee to the HAR Board of Directors in 2009; it was a tremendous honor to be chosen by our chair and HAR Executive Committee for this position. As I became more aware of Private Property Rights, HAR, TAR, NAR and TREPAC, my involvement became a "Passion". Continuing to be at the forefront for our consumers regarding Private Property Rights is a "given". Our "Grassroots" efforts are second to none. Therefore, it is a MUST that we continue to increase our members' awareness and the consumers' awareness on such vital issues that affect all of us as property owners.

As a resident of the Houston/Clear Lake Area for 29 years and a graduate of the University of Houston, I have really enjoyed the opportunities our city has to offer.

One of the priorities of our company is to continue educating and informing our agents so they will be more successful in their real estate careers. As Realtors, I believe the main challenge we all face is adjusting to the ever-changing environment of our business.

I think our Houston Association of Realtors has done an excellent job in helping its members respond to that changing environment. HAR helps Realtors improve their business through education programs and the HAR web tools. Additionally, through the HAR website marketing efforts and billboard/print ads, the public is reminded of the value Realtors provide. The HAR website is remarkable when compared to other MLS websites around the country.

I am a very positive person and really enjoy the people I have met and worked with in my career. Houston has a lot of very talented Realtors. I know that successful Realtors are always working to improve their knowledge, people skills, marketing techniques, and productivity. I have served as a Board member with the Realtor Association for HAR, TAR and NAR. It has been the best decision of my career to enter the real estate industry. I am Co-Owner of First Group, a full service commercial real estate firm established in 1974.

I have been blessed to work, strive, and prosper in our industry during good to great times, and difficult to bad times. We know the commercial real estate industry is changing because of The Evolution of “Green,” seen with more and more buildings becoming LEED certified. I began my commercial real estate career in 1971 in Houston. In 1978 I founded and continue to serve as President of A. David Schwarz III Inc., before joining McDade Smith Gould, Johnston, Mason + Company in February 2001. I earned my BBA degree in Accounting from the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. I served as President of the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors and was awarded the John E. Wolf Citizenship Cup from the Houston Association of Realtors. I served on the Board of Directors of the Houston Association of Realtors from 2001-2004 and have served on the HAR Political Affairs Advisory Group from 2001 to the Present and am a Sterling “R” Contributor. Everyone who works with me knows that I bring an extremely high level of energy and enthusiasm to the work place.  I am also a described “workaholic”.  It is this enthusiasm, work ethic and integrity that will enable me to be an effective HAR Board member and make a difference if elected.

Since 1998, I’ve worked hard to establish and lead five successful real estate businesses in Houston. Our business entities include real estate sales, investing, mortgage lending, mortgage servicing and commercial lending. It is this diverse experience that will enable me to be a successful and competent leader on the HAR Board of Directors.  One of my companies is well known for its billboard advertising which has resulted in our company being extremely recognizable with tremendous positive market branding and presence.

This brings me to my number 1 goal of improving HAR advertising presence and effectiveness to promote home ownership within the Houston market.  Specifically delivering the message that home ownership is still possible, obtainable for Houstonians and not the “doom and gloom” as the national media has portrayed and unfortunately convinced many citizens that they cannot obtain home ownership.  We all know that this is not the situation in Houston and we need to convey this message to the public that home ownership is obtainable in Houston.

I have worked in the Houston real estate market for 11 years and that has given me the knowledge and ability to assist Houston residents in achieving their dreams of home ownership.  I have been a licensed real estate Agent and a member of HAR since 2007.  In addition I have also been a TREPAC supporter as well.  I have been certified as a “Top Production Realtor” based upon 2008 & 2009 buyer side number of MLS sales transactions of the Houston Association of Realtors. I have also been certified as a “Top Production Realtor” based upon 2008 & 2009 listing side number of MLS sales transactions of the Houston Association of Realtors.

With over 15 Years of experience in leadership roles with the Women’s Council of REALTORS® at the local, state and national levels, including serving as the 2009 National President, I feel I will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to my service on the Board of Directors for the Houston Association of REALTORS®.

In addition to my WCR experience, I have also served the last 4.5 years as a TREPAC Trustee for HAR and TAR and have become very involved in the politics of our industry. I became a member of HAR in 1970 when I received my agent's license, and I have been active in listings and sales in Houston for my entire career. I was initially sponsored by Baron Realty and active there as an agent from 1970 to 1972. In 1972 I joined Village Green Properties and remained there until the spring of 1974 when I received my broker's license and opened my own company, Weldon Rigby, Realtors, which was a small boutique office specializing in the luxury upscale home market. Over the years I have served as an individual sole agent and as a broker for many agents who I sponsored and trained, and they have remained active and successful in our profession.

In 2004, I made the decision to join Keller Williams Metropolitan, and for these last five years I have enjoyed being a broker associate with the third largest franchise in North America.
