Hello, i'm super excited to be relocating to Houston, Tx from Milwaukee, WI my primary focus and motivation for relocating to Houston is to start an non profit organization for helping homeless women. starting out of course i am looking to rent a nice apartment in an over all safe neighborhood/community, this one of my biggest issues considering i'm a 32 yr old woman with no children and no family in Houston so i need to be certain my i'm safe and comfortable, it;s a bit overwhelming to research areas that will best suite me considering not really having a lot of knowledge about the neighborhoods what's good and what's not so good. I would greatly appreciate accurate feedback and pointed in the right direction on suggestions about where to key in on looking. Thank You in advance,

Dear Bernice,

I have relatives in Wisconsin. Right near Milwakee, in Sheboygan.
Welcome to Houston, you are coming to a great place.
We moved down to Houston a few years ago, and have loved living here ever since.

Given that you are setting up your own non-profit, you can be located just about anywhere, I personally like the Pearland Area (288 South and Beltway 8), it is lush/ green and built about 10 years ago. Also it is very conveniently located as you are st 20min from Downtown, Galeria, or just about anywhere else.

Let me know if you have any questions, I look forward to helping you.

Kind Regards,

Hi Bernice,

Moving is a very big decision, so I understand why you'd want to ask these questions. Sadly, most of these are questions that Realtors are strongly discouraged from answering. Anything related to Fair Housing Laws is not something we can address. What I can tell you is that the #1 complaint in moving to Houston is traffic. It's probably best if you work your scenario backwards and ask yourself these questions:

1. What area will I be working in?
2. How long of a commute am I willing to drive? (Assuming less than 30 min. I'd select a 5-7 mile radius around where you anticipate working.)
3. What can I comfortably afford?
4. Then when you pinpoint an area, check the crime statistics from Houston's Police Department and see what works for you.

Lastly, there are many good "social/lifestyle" magazines online for Houston that will tell you where to shop, eat, and entertain yourself. You may want to check out some of these to get a better feel for whats available the area that you're looking to move. I'm pasting some websites of local lifestyle magazines for you to see. I wish you much success in you move to Houston. It's a beautiful and culturally diverse city.
