  • I think the HOA should not interfere with signage. I was told one HOA that only 2 open house signs were permitted. - Aug 27, 2015

It is very frequent for HOAs to have such restrictions, typically the higher end the community the tighter the restrictions.

Rules are rules! But I feel Signs should be allowed. Signs still help sell properties, it makes it harder to sell without signs.
If it's open house signs, they should not be up everyday, that would be kind of annoying after a while of seeing it everyday. Maybe put a limit in hoa restrictions on how many days a month that can happen at one property. Just a thought!

Seems a bit overkill to have restrictions on that but most people find out about open houses online in this age anyway. I typically just have the sign in the front yard of the house now and it doesn't reduce the number of people we have coming through at all.

Actually, I believe that it's not really a bad thing. The neighborhood doesn't want signs all over, makes it harder when listing and marketing the home somewhat, or say, it presents the challenge of drive by buyers, but there are so many tools available to the consumer that let them find the homes that are listed in neighborhoods they like. When it comes to standards I can understand. It just challenges your marketing expertise. Makes it an exclusive neighborhood.

The HOA can have such restrictions, whether they should or not......that's pretty subjective, it may make sense for some.

Unfortunately the HOA makes the rules. There are areas in Cinco Ranch that will not allow any signage. I have seen signs removed within minutes, and not returned.

Seen For sale in windows only in condos/townhouses deed restrictions just not open house signs. The covenants can establish any deed restrictions they choose, i could understand if it is a extremely exclusive community.

As long as Realtors are quick to remove the signs when the open house is over, I do not see why there should be deed restrictions against it. I would think the community would prefer a house in their neighborhood to be marketed well as opposed to sitting. However, if Realtors are consistently not prompt in removing signs or somehow damaging landscaping, I would agree for restrictions. What is your opinion, Kelly Jackson?
