Interesting speakers and subject matter at today's Conroe Noon Lions meeting today discussing one of the upcoming items on the ballet on the May 9, 2015 election - road bonds.
In an unanimous vote the Montgomery County Commissioners Court has approved a list of 77 projects that will be set for the May 9th $350 million bond referendum. Projects which include the controversial extension of the Woodlands Parkway from FM 2978 to Texas 249.
The final project list was cut to 77 projects to keep the bond issue to $350,000 so that there would not be a tax hike in conjunction with this bond election.
There appears to be some opposition growing on this issue as it relates to only one of the 77 projects, the Woodlands Parkway extension.
I was shocked to learn that in the last Bond issue relating to Montgomery County roads in 2011; 14,000 people turned out to vote in 2011 - and the issue was defeated. Makes one think - I can honestly say I didn't vote on that day and I wish that I had looking back.
