Keep it simple

When the New Year hits, you may be set on achieving all of your New Years’ resolutions—whether it be eating healthier, exercising more, or even spending more time with your family. However, while the New Year often allows for a “new year, new you,” it’s also a great time to renew your home, too! Instead of just refreshing your lifestyle choices, why not refresh the space you live in? Here are some ways you can freshen up and update your home for comfortable living in the new year for the new you:

Get Rid of the Clutter

The best place to start before you revamp your home is to get rid of the clutter left behind from 2016. Throw out or donate things that you know you will no longer need going into the new year. Old receipts and junk mail? Invest in a shredder and shred away! Clothes taking up space? If you’re having a hard time deciding whether or not you should donate clothing items keep this rule in mind: if you haven’t worn it within the last year, chances are you won’t be wearing it this year either. De-cluttering the home will also allow you to reorganize the home too!

Put a Cleaning System in Place Rearrange Your Existing Furniture

Once you’ve de-cluttered the home, then you can focus on deep cleaning around the home. Afterward, come up with a simple cleaning system for yourself so you can practice consistent upkeep with your home. This could range from vacuuming twice a week and dusting once a week to loading the dishwasher every night.

Rearrange Your Existing Furniture

Tired of the current layout of your home? Try moving the furniture to different places to change things up. Switch your entertainment center with your couch if it makes sense, or angle your living room seating slightly away from the TV to allow you to connect more with your guests. A new look will make your home feel brand new as you adjust to the new arrangement.

Switch Out the Colors

As much as you liked your trusty hues last year, maybe it might be time for a different color, too. While painting your living room or bedroom walls a different color is a great way to incorporate a refreshing color into the home, if you’re renting, it might not be that easy. Try using an accent color that you can find from furnishings and fittings such as throw pillows, curtains, rugs, or even bedding to add a splash of something new instead. You don’t have to stop there either; incorporate new artwork in your home to give it a unique look.

By using these simple techniques, you can turn your old home into a new one in no time. Here’s to a new year, new you, and new home!
