Lights in the Heights is an annual event in the Woodlands Heights neighborhood that started over 25 years ago when a resident visited New Mexico and was inspired by their decorations.

This year’s event is on Saturday, December 10th from 6:30PM to 9:00PM. There will be street closures in portions of the Heights as they celebrate Lights in the Heights. The event, organized by the Woodlands Heights Civic Organization, was rumored as canceled last year due to previous year’s disorderly crowds. While many private parties will be happening during the event, it is still open to the public.

People will be able to stroll through the Historic neighborhood and enjoy beautiful lights displays and live musicians. Caroling is optional. Interested visitors aren’t limited to this night - homes will remain decorated throughout December and can be viewed any night of the month by car or by foot on the sidewalks.

Streets affected during the celebration are Bayland Avenue and Woodland Street between Studewood Street and Beauchamp Street, and Norhill Street between Highland Street and Euclid Street. Closures will be in affect from 5:30 to 9:00PM.

Another popular Christmas lights display in Houston is the  Prestonwood Forest neighborhood’s Nite of Lights also beginning Saturday, December 10th. This event is celebrating its 39th year and encourages residents and visitors to vote on their favorite displays in social media and with the neighborhood website. Displays can win prizes based on different categories. Most visitor touring the neighborhood do so by car.

The Zoo Lights at the Houston Zoo, Winterfest at Typoon Texas, and Festival of Lights at Moody Gardens (in Galveston) are all currently selling tickets to their events.
