Relocating to Klein ISD

Family Fun & Health Fair Returns for its Fifth Year

Apr 05 2016 - 04:11:00 pm

The 5th annual Kleinwell Family Fun and Health Fair, sponsored by Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, is set for Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Klein Memorial Stadium. The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and is free and open to the community. There will be over 100 health and wellness booths, exhibits, and free health screenings.

“Our goal is for everyone attending the fair to have a great time and to promote a culture of wellness throughout our school district and our community at the same time,” said Kleinwell Healthy Living Program coordinator Winni Attaway. “After spending the morning with fitness experts, physicians, nutritionists, and other health specialists, you will be able to walk away with information to help your family lead a healthier lifestyle.”

Highlights of this year’s fair include physicians available to answer your health-related questions. Fitness demonstrations including Zumba, Jazzercise, and kickboxing will be presented. The Klein ISD STEAM Express will be on hand providing tours of the state-of-the-art mobile classroom. The Klein ISD Police Department will have their “Street Smarts” program complete with the “Red Man Suit” to teach self-defense tactics. As always, the fair will feature a Kid Zone complete with face painting, balloon animals, games, inflatable bounce houses and obstacle courses provided by BoBo Bouncers.

An additional feature to this year’s fair will be the Wunderlich Farm Farmers Market complete, with fresh local produce, local honey, organic snack mixes and coffee, artesian breads and pastries, salsa, all-natural pet treats, soaps and other skin care products. Barrel Creations of Texas will be on-site making furniture and home décor.

“A farmers market used to be a way of life,” said Living History Educator and Wunderlich Farm historian Steve Baird. “By combining the Farmers Market and the Health Fair we are moving beyond our walls of the museum to introduce products to a larger audience. It’s one thing to exercise, but if you aren’t eating healthy as well, you are only doing half the work. This is a great way to get out and support our local farmers and small businesses by eating local and shopping local.”

The fair will provide something of interest for everyone including a silent auction with gift cards and gift baskets with proceeds benefiting the Kleinwell Healthy Living Program.
