Texas Tax Free Weekend starts This Friday! August 7-9th, 2015

tax free

I realized that some of you may be new to Texas and may not be familiar with a fantastic back-to-school event in our state.  Each year the state of Texas offers a tax free weekend during the month of August.  During this three day period, there is no sales tax (state or local) charged on a number of items including clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks for adults and children! The law only covers items that area priced at under $100. So, the $110 skirt that you are looking at would not be covered. However, two $99.99 shirts would each be covered under this clause!

There are a few exceptions. The tax free status does not apply to protective gear or footwear designed primarily for sports (padding, golf cleats, gym bags, helmets). Things often worn outside of athletics (bathing suits, tennis shoes, jogging suits) are included in the tax free weekend!

Tax free weekend applies to purchases in-store, by mail or over the internet. So, make your list and go stimulate the local economy! Don’t forget that this fantastic event covers adult clothes too so whether you have students getting ready for back to school or you just want to update your fall wardrobe, this is a great weekend to go shopping. Most stores also have fantastic sales during this time so check the paper or internet before you head out.

Tax free weekend starts this, Friday, August 7th and continues for the 8th and 9th! Grab your list and have a great time freshening up that fall wardrobe for you and/or your family!
