I've had the opportunity to care for one of my parents until her passing.  It was both an honor and a privilege however not without some strategic challenges.  Over the next few postings I would like to share some tips on how to make that responsibility easier for the caregiver and the loved one being cared for.  I am often faced with the challenge to find a home that has a second bedroom on the first floor.  First let me say you may want to consider adding a chair lift to your stairs before selling your home and relocating in order to care for a loved one.  I had one and my mother lived on the second floor with a degree of privacy and it enabled her to be as mobile as she could (she was an amputee).  There are several companies in the Houston area that provide chair lifts and elevators when possible in residential homes and the cost you may find surprisingly affordable compared to moving and making a new purchase.  Hope this helps Alexa
