The First 50

Hard to believe. This is my 50th blog.

Whether this is a cause for celebration or not I guess depends on whether you still derive any pleasure from their receipt each week ... I'm sure some of you just endure them out of sympathy for this old curmudgeon of an Englishman. Through doing them I have definitely been kept more observant and aware of the little differences in day to day life of living here in Houston to that of being in the UK, and certainly more than I might otherwise have been,  though I'm not sure my wife would agree that this was necessarily a good thing ...

Subjects covered in the course of the "First 50" ranged from chirping frogs to country music, drought to drug ads, beer to baseball and gardening to golf. They can all be found if you go to the blog page I set up specifically to post them for posterity at https://johnmpaulus.wordpress.com. Only a select few will have seen and read all 50 of them - my mailing list at the start was only around 20 and it's now grown to over 200. Some blogs have certainly elicited more response than others and of course people react to differently to different topics. Some share their similar thoughts and experiences, some have a different take on things that they want to share. Some of the comments have been quite long (mostly those from my mother) and thankfully most have been polite and generally complimentary (again, mostly from my Mum) And of course, many responses are so much wittier than my blog - but of course I never admit that directly!

I did wonder if I would run out of subject matter; perhaps many of you are hoping this too, and soon? But even if I don't have anything in particular to talk about, I can still manage to knock them out ... So, what photo to go with this blog about a blog? How about a hill on a mound? This is the centrepiece of the new gardens just opened (though still with a lot of work to do) within Hermann Park. Not a cloud in the sky, as the people walk by ...

I know, it's a rather spurious link but this was the best picture I took all last week and I just had to get it in somehow. Next week, a blog about a blog about a blog perhaps?
